We Must Slow Down

It seems that we're all on this massive treadmill that is going faster and faster each day. Most of us find that extra energy to keep up but some of us fall and get flattened like George Jetson on the closing scenes of the Jetsons. Round and round they go flattened on the belt of that treadmill.

As I talk with more friends, I find that all of us are going through this same crazy situation -- trying to do a million things and be everything to everybody. Eventually, it all comes crashing down on us.

After reading Supasister's and JA's blogs, I feel like we're each going thru the same thing but for many different reasons. All I can say at this point is that we will have to cast off some of this stuff and simplify our lives. I'd hate to look up one day and feel like I've missed out on the better aspects of life because the rat race consumed all my time. Time to enjoy the family, home, friends, and the things that matter most in life.

The Wife and I Surfing the Web...Together!

I finally got my wife to take some time and come check out the Internet. She has never heard of it...until today. Okay, I'm just kidding. I'll admit she does use computers and the Internet at work but once she gets home, it seems to put her immediately to sleep. Maybe it's me and she's just using it as the reason for her drowsiness. She just can't bring herself to tell me that I'm boring.

She inadvertently walked into my study and was ensnared into my internet world before she knew what came over her. I showed her a few of the new things on my website, TimBookTu, and she eventually pulled up a chair and went along for the ride. After taking her through the various features of the site, I noticed that she was staring at the ceiling for an extended period. I'd mentioned in a previous blog posting all the work we'd done to the house, so maybe she was contemplating some new ideas to have done to the ceiling.

But, she was off into dreamland just that quick. Head thrown back, eyes closed, and starting to catch some serious ZZZZ's.

Here I was alone again, left to explore my world of blogs, Google, Wikipedia, IMDb, CNET.com, EUR, fantasy sports, and all the other places that I won't divulge at this time.

As I write this, she is now awake, standing over my shoulder and having a good laugh at what I've written about her. But, once she realizes that it will be posted to the web her demeanor changes from giddiness to mild alarm. I have to control my own laughter and glee as she protests and begs me not to write this down. But isn't that what the blog is all about...telling some deep dark secret to the whole world and giving everyone some insight into your innermost thoughts and fears????

Oh well, she's abandoned me and is off to watch that ole fashioned thing called the television.

I guess it will be a long time before the wife visits the World of Mempheus again.

Holiday Break

The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is always a busy one for me. It's the mad dash to get things ready for the Christmas holiday. From polishing off the Thanksgiving leftovers to trying to get an early start on Christmas shopping to attending all of the holiday parties that I'm fortunate enough to get invited to, the days seem to speed by.

This year I also threw into the mix some home improvement activities and furniture purchases that required me to race home early just about every other day to wait on the arrival of the workers who would perform their magic. After several quick exits from work and a few no shows from the workers, I was able to get the furniture delivered and the work done. I was even able to get the wifey to delay her departure for work on one of the days to let the workers in. Once my college-aged sons were home for the holidays, I enlisted them to help in the efforts, too. Of course, they were often unhappily awakened by the loud knock on the door at the ungodly hour of 10 am.

Christmas Day went by with a breeze. The family and I made the usual rounds to visit family and friends to deliver & collect presents and to collect the delectable goodies from each stop -- Pound cake, sweet potato pie, ham, potato salad, even some barbequed ribs from one way station.

This week I get to enjoy some time off between Christmas and New Years doing absolutely nothing. There are a few tasks that I have been putting off for months that I might get around to doing but somehow I like the fact that I can just be lazy for a change. The wifey is working some this week, so the sons and I are just overdosing on DVD's, television, and the internet. We all gave the others several of our favorite tv shows on DVD for Christmas -- The King of Queens, Family Guy, Taxi, and Sex and the City. And we still have the NBA sports package, rented DVD's, and On Demand movies to occupy our time.

I guess those work projects will have to wait until President's Day weekend to get accomplished.

Arriving on the Late Freight

Since many of my pals have already started blogging, I figured I'd might as well jump into the fray and start my own blog. Nobody wants to be left behind, do they? I've always been near the leading edge on all things internet but blogging was something that I decided to wait and see if I really had an interest in it.

Since I already had my own web page since the mid-90's, I was able to express myself through that outlet. But blogging is more immediate, so here I am. As I continue to play with the format and overall look of the page, I'll be sure to keep you abreast of my ruminations, ramblings and remarks.
